Six players whose contracts or loan spells were due to expire at the end of the month will be available for Newcastle’s last nine games, Steve Bruce has confirmed.
Andy Carroll, Matty Longstaff and Javier Manquillo would all have been out of contract on July 1, with Danny Rose, Nabil Bentaleb and Valentino Lazaro due to return to their parent clubs.
“We’ve had ongoing conversations with most of them now for the last few weeks,” Bruce explained.
“We’re all in this unprecedented area of what do we do; there’s been a lot of dialogue with the Premier League, of course, and what we’re going to do with out-of-contract players.
“What they did is grant an extension until the end of the season and all our lads, including the loan players and the out-of-contract players, agreed to stay on and play until the end of the season, which is obviously a good thing.”

Bruce confirmed on Friday that Longstaff has been offered a “fantastic” deal to stay at the club beyond the end of the season, and has turned down a long-term contract offer from Newcastle earlier this season.
Longstaff, who has been earning just £850 per week on an academy contract at Newcastle, was offered a lucrative contract by Serie A side Udinese having travelled to Italy for talks just before the coronavirus lockdown.
Carroll is in his second spell at the club and has played 13 league games this campaign, despite familiar struggles with injury. He is yet to score since returning to the Tyneside.
Since joining the club from Atletico Madrid in 2017, Manquillo has played over 50 times for the club and has been an important squad player for Bruce and former Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez.
Rose, Bentaleb and Lazaro all joined the club on loan in January and have made a combined seven Premier League appearances for the Magpies.
