Italy toughens mask rules and closes nightclubs after scientists warn cases are climbing

Wearing a face mask is to become mandatory in public places in Italy between the hours of 6pm and 6am due to a spike in coronavirus cases – with the government also ordering nightclubs to close, according to reports.
Masks will need to be worn where social distancing is not possible, while the closure of nightclubs and dance halls also applies to those venues that are outdoors.
The decisions were made during a urgent meeting of ministers and local officials this afternoon after 479 new infections were reported nationwide, Sky Italia and Corriere della Serra said.
Elsewhere, France reported 3,105 new cases in the past 24 hours, with 263 clusters being investigated.
