Rugby Shirts Are Officially a Fall Essential. Here Are 18 of the Best.

Way back in the day, I was asked by a burly dude in the hallway of my high school whether I might be interested in joining the rugby team. I knew exactly fuck-all about how the sport was played, other than that the players wore tiny shorts and cool shirts. With the shirts informing entirely too much of my thought process, I figured I might give it a go. Then that same dude showed up a few days later with duct tape wrapped around his skull and told me he’d gotten a concussion and a deep gash in his scalp earlier at rugby practice. So, yeah. I didn’t join the team. And honestly I didn’t give rugby shirts much thought for years afterward.

But then! Oh, shit. The rugby came marching triumphantly back onto the scene, sometimes channeling the ’90s vibe of its earlier heyday, sometimes looking like it might actually show up in a match, and sometimes looking entirely new and different. It’s been a few years since that initial comeback, and the rugby revival is showing no signs of slowing down. Which means if you haven’t already added one to your rotation, now’s the time. And if you’ve already got a few? Hell, get a few more. Just don’t wrap a head wound in duct tape. That dude from high school knew what was up with shirts, but his knowledge only extended so far.
