Social-Savvy Sneakers and More of This Week’s Best Menswear Releases

Omicron. Ukraine. Betty White. If we look at the headlines, the new year hasn’t started off as well as we would have liked. We expected 2022 to be different, especially coming from what feels like a decade of complete misery. But let’s be hopeful; it doesn’t do any good to dwell in a state of depression. Think positively and take the steps to really enhance whatever we need enhancing. Yes, making a list of ephemeral resolutions in January is a trope, but here we are, going through the motions. And here to help us look at the glass half full are this week’s latest drops.

We have some playful pants from a collab between Creature World’s Danny Cole and Advisry. Converse is reminding us of our formative years, partnering with Pokemon on an All Star sneaker that is selling out faster than the Game Boy Color back in 1998. Vans by Vault also has some bright shoes that are primed for Instagram. The Brooklyn Circus has a varsity jacket that symbolizes abundance and gratitude. And Bally’s latest capsule with illustrator Jun Chen is all about positive change and good fortune.

Let’s all take this moment to eschew doom and gloom, and cop some stuff that’s all about spreading joy. Also, it’s Friday, so at least we have the weekend to look forward to.

Social media has become a force unlike any other. Commenting on its dominance, from the good to the bad, over the zeitgeist is Cali Thornhill DeWitt, an artist who gathers phrases and headlines from the deep recesses to create photographs, music videos, zines, and prints. Now, he has a a new medium: shoes. Dewitt has partnered with Vans on a seven-piece collection that takes his aesthetic and places it on the brand’s signature kicks: the Sk8-Hi, Era, Chukka, Old Skool, and Slip-On.

BKc Cranberry Maude Varsity Jacket

The Brooklyn Circus

When it comes to the varsity jacket, it really doesn’t get any better than one from The Brooklyn Circus. For 15 years, the brand has been refining the style, offering variations that have greater meaning than what is seen on the surface. Its latest drop, for example, features distressed naked cow leather leather-sleeves and eye-catching red melton wool front and back panels that are inspired by cranberries, which symbolize abundance and gratitude. And we can think of no better way to start the new year than with a topper that evokes that message.
