The ICRC regional delegation in Pretoria is looking for a suitable candidate to fill the following vacancy:

Field officer for its Restoring Family Links activities in South Africa

The purpose of this position is to support the implementation and monitoring of ICRC Restoring Family Links (RFL) activities.

Minimum required qualification & experience:

  • University degree or relevant professional experience.

  • Good knowledge of the socio-economic and political situation in the Southern Africa region.

  • Three years’ experience in the field of social, political or economic sciences or similar.

  • Excellent command of English, and good command of the native languages of South Africa. Portuguese and French are an asset.

  • Adaptability and capacity to work in a multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary environment and to deal with new work-related challenges.

  • Good communication skills, in particular negotiation and networking skills.

  • Good knowledge and skills on computer packages.

  • Understands the three components of the Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.

  • Knowledge of design, implementation and monitoring of projects (including budgetary aspects)

  • Developed analytical skills.

  • Prepared to travel internationally on occasion.

Function description

  • Conducts regular field trips across the country and cooperates with the South African Red Cross (SARCS) to build a RFL structure and provides RFL trainings to staff and volunteers whenever necessary.

  • Develops and maintains partnerships in the provision of RFL services with organizations and other actors (migrant community leaders) outside the Red Cross Movement.

  • Contributes to the design and implementation of RFL projects and ensures that RFL programs implemented with SARCS and other partners are running smoothly.

  • Analyses data and contributes to written internal reports; assists in institutional exercises relating to planning, budgeting and monitoring programs.

  • Develops and maintains contact with municipal/regional authorities, local/regional National Society branches, the local population, migrants, other stakeholders (UN, NGOs) and suppliers.

  • Receives beneficiaries (migrants, refugees) at the office and ensures a follow-up and adequate handling of all the collected tracing cases.

  • Oversees and manages the allocation of RFL budget according to ICRC procedures.
