I’ve tried hundreds, nay thousands, of moisturizing creams, gels, lotions, and other potions in my life as a grooming editor. And yes, there are a lot of good ones out there. But, to be honest, I can count the moisturizers I go back to again and again on one hand. That’s because I am very, very picky—and I’m sure you are, too.
The right moisturizer can be hard to find, especially for men. Dudes like me prefer lightweight options that don’t feel like they just sit on your skin. Plus, a guy’s skin tends to be more oily than a woman’s, and too many formulas result in a greasy and shiny complexion and clogged pores. If this sounds familiar, I recommend checking out Chantecaille’s new
Oil Free Balancing Moisturizer. It’s specifically designed for oily and combination skin types and is the latest addition to my inner circle of holy grail moisturizers.
Why do I love it? The thin, milky liquid (a few pumps are enough to cover my entire face and neck) sinks into my skin almost immediately, without leaving behind any residue or greasiness. Even though the finish is slightly matte, it gives me that healthy glow everyone always talks about. Best of all, it keeps my skin feeling fresh and hydrated all day and even helps control the afternoon shine that I typically deal with, thanks to my combination skin.
How a moisturizer feels is important, of course, but so is what it does below the surface. As its name suggests, the Oil Free Balancing Moisturizer doesn’t just hydrate, it also helps balance the skin’s microbiota, an ecosystem of microorganisms that protect skin from outside aggressors. Here’s the deal: When it’s out of balance, the result can be all sorts of skin concerns, such as loss of hydration, sensitivity, irritation, excess oil and breakouts.
To ensure skin harmony, this formula contains marine postbiotic, which, according to the brand, helps strengthen your skin barrier and minimize breakouts. It also features marine exopolysaccharides, plant stem cells that further help your microbiome flourish. On top of all that, it’s got moisture-locking polyglutamic acid and saccharide isomerate (plant-derived sugars), plus botanical extracts for even more nourishing benefits.
All of this sounds great in theory, but how much of a difference does it really make in your skin? Well, after a few weeks of consistent use, my skin has less redness and sensitivity and is definitely more hydrated. I love to apply it after my post-workout shower and despite the summer humidity, it helps keep my oily areas in check for the rest of the day. I honestly look forward to using the Chantecaille Oil Free Balancing Moisturizer—and for that, it’s officially earned a permanent place in my medicine cabinet.
