It’s no secret that adding a bomber jacket to your arsenal is one of the easiest style moves you can make these days. 2016 may have been the year of the bomber, but 2019 is the perfect time to take it to the next level.
That’s exactly what Jon Hamm has done. We got our proof when he was spotted on the streets of New York City on Wednesday demonstrating his Expert Status in the bomber department, while wearing one from Rag & Bone.
There’s nothing more versatile than a classic, solid colored bomber jacket. But this isn’t a box of crayons we’re talking about—this is fashion, baby. And so in 2019, the bomber jacket is so ubiquitous that of course it comes in pretty much any print you can think of. Hell, they even make them covered in Looney Tunes. Your safe bet for mixing it up, though? Stick to slight variations on the classics. Subtle checkers or glen plaid tells the world “this is my other bomber.” Think of it as your menswear summer home.
From there, take another page out of Hamm’s book and keep the rest of your fit nice and simple. We don’t talk a lot about the rules these days, because we’re living in a time where you can look good breakin’ them. But one I tend to stand by, myself, is to let your statement piece make the statement all alone.
A little plaid never shocked anyone—but it’s noticeable, and still makes that statement.
