Family of five found dead with gunshot wounds in the US

A family of five have been found dead with gunshot wounds in a Massachusetts home in what police have described as a “horrific” tragedy.
The bodies of the two adults and three children were discovered in condominium complex in the small town of Abington on Monday morning by a relative who was picking up the children for school.

The family member called 911 after finding one of the adults bleeding on a couch on the first floor.
“It’s a crime, a crime occurred in that building. Three little children are gone forever,” said Plymouth District Attorney Timothy Cruz said at a news conference.
He also noted that the victims, the Zaccardi family, appeared to have died of gunshot wounds.

Mr Cruz would not elaborate further on what happened, saying it is still under investigation, and that there was no threat to the public.

The children were a boy and a girl who were nine-year-old twins, as well as an 11-year-old girl.

The woman was 40 and the man was 43. There were no other people in their condo unit.
Abington police Chief David Majenski said there was no history of domestic issues with the family.
He said: “It’s horrific circumstances, and it’s a tragedy all the way around, for the first responders, for the fire, for the police, for everyone responding.
“It’s just a horrific event that nobody should ever see.”
The victims’ relatives later released a statement via Mr Cruz’s office, calling the deaths “an unfathomable loss”.
The children attended Abington Public Schools, Superintendent Peter Schafer said in a message to parents that was shared with the media.
His statement added: “We are heartbroken to share with you that the Zaccardi family, an Abington family, died unexpectedly last night.
“There are three young students of this family in our district. At this time, we do not have any other details about what happened.
“This was an unexpected event, which deeply saddens all of us. This is a tragedy that will affect the entire Abington community.
“Their presence touched so many lives and there are no words to express the sadness we feel,” he said of the family.”
Counsellors have been made available to students.
Abington has a population of about 16,000 and is approximately 20 miles (30km) south of Boston.
