Liam Gallagher has raised Oasis fans’ hopes that the band could finally be set for a comeback, saying his brother has called him “begging” for a reunion.
In a message to his 3.2 million Twitter followers, the rock star claimed he plans to retire as a solo artist after his next album and suggested an Oasis reunion is on the cards in 2022.
He wrote: “I intend to retire as solo artist after album no3 as I have just had a call from my brother begging me to start oasis again in 2022 if you believe in life after love c’mon you know LG x.”
The message came shortly after Gallagher had jokingly posted that he was going to “spilt up with myself” after his third album, adding: “I just don’t think I’ll be able to work with myself any longer, I can write what I like and so can he but I think it’s for the best.”
Many of Gallagher’s followers appeared sceptical over his suggestion about an Oasis reunion – with the singer and his brother and former bandmate Noel in a long-running feud since the group split up in 2009.
“Stop teasing us Liam”, one of his followers wrote.
“Don’t mess with my heart Liam,” another added.
“Don’t be a wind up,” one fan said.
In November, Noel said that an Oasis reunion was looking unlikely thanks to his “moron” brother’s online behaviour.
He told the Big Issue that every tweet posted by Liam is a “nail in the coffin” for a comeback for the band.
“It’s strange behaviour for someone who is gagging for me to pick up the phone and say let’s do it,” Noel said.
“He’d put his whole life on hold to get Oasis back together.
“But every tweet he sends out, it’s another nail in the coffin of that idea.”
