HBO Max Gives the Go Ahead to Animated Aquaman Miniseries

According to Variety, HBO Max has ordered a three-part animated series based on James Wan’s Aquaman movie titled Aquaman: King of Atlantis. Wan will executive produce the series, which will focus on the hero’s attempts to rule the underwater kingdom of Atlantis.

“This DC property is a fan-favorite rich with well-known characters and dynamic storylines,” said Sarah Aubrey, head of original content for HBO Max. “On the heels of Warner Bros. Pictures’ box office smash hit, we are certain ‘Aquaman: King of Atlantis’ will be an exciting addition to our already robust slate of kids and family programming.”

Per the report, the series will focus on Aquaman as he deals with “unscrupulous surface dwellers, elder evils from beyond time and his own half-brother who wants to overthrow him”, alongside his two royal advisors, Vulko, the scholar, and Mera, the water controlling warrior-princess. Aquaman must rise to the occasion and prove to his subjects that he is the one true ruler of Atlantis.

This is the latest DC project picked up by HBO Max, including the Greg Berlanti executive produced Strange Adventures and Green Lantern Corps.

The article doesn’t state whether Aquaman himself, actor Jason Mamoa, or any of his co-stars will lend their voices to the series.
