Bong Joon-Ho teases new details about HBO’s Parasite Miniseries
After the Parasite cast won a major SAG Award for Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture last Sunday, director Bong Joon-Ho shared new details about his upcoming Parasite limited series for HBO. In an interview with Variety, Bong has revealed that the Parasite series will feature many stories regarding each of the film’s characters, which seemingly confirms the possibility of the original cast’ involvement in the series. Speaking with another outlet, the Oscar-nominated filmmaker has also described his upcoming HBO series with Adam McKay as a “six-hour-long-film” which will highlight all the ideas he wasn’t able to fit into the film’s two-hour runtime.
“So I had all these key ideas accumulated from when I started writing the script,” Bong said. (via The Wrap) “I just couldn’t include all those ideas in the two-hour running time of the film, so they’re all stored in my iPad and my goal with this limited series is to create a six-hour-long film.”
He also teased one of the possible stories that might get featured in the miniseries will revolve around the peach-allergic housekeeper Moon-Gwang, who was portrayed by Lee Jung-Eun.
“For example when the original housekeeper Moon-Gwang (Lee Jung-Eun) comes back in the late-night, something happened to her face. Even her husband asked about it but she never answered,” Bong added. “I know why she had the bruises on her face. I have a story for that and aside from that why does she know the existence of this bunker? What relationship does she have with that architect to know of this bunker? So I have all these hidden stories that I have stored,”

The movie Parasite follows two families: the Park Family, who are the picture of aspirational wealth, and the Kim Family, rich in street smarts but not much else. Be it chance or fate, these two houses are brought together and the Kims sense a golden opportunity. Masterminded by college-aged Ki-woo, the Kim children expediently install themselves as tutor and art therapist, to the Parks. Soon, a symbiotic relationship forms between the two families. The Kims provide “indispensable” luxury services while the Parks obliviously bankroll their entire household. When a parasitic interloper threatens the Kims’ newfound comfort, a savage, underhanded battle for dominance breaks out, threatening to destroy the fragile ecosystem between the Kims and the Parks.
Parasite is a peculiar tale about two families who are worlds apart yet somewhat alike, portraying a striking reality of the world we live in. The film stars Lee Sun-Kyun (A Hard Day), Cho Yeo-Jeong (Obsessed), Choi Woo-Shik (Okja), Park So-Dam (The Priests), and Chang Hyae-Jin (Poetry).
