Daryl Hall is suing his Hall and Oates bandmate, John Oates, as first reported by Philadelphia. Hall filed his complaint against Oates, Aimee J. Oates, and Richard Flynn in Nashville’s chancery court on Thursday, November 16. The latter two defendants are labeled as co-trustees of the John W. Oates TISA Trust.
According to The Associated Press, Hall is trying to halt Oates and his co-trustees’ sale of their share of Whole Oats Enterprises LLP to Primary Wave IP Investment Management LLC—a music publishing company that has apparently owned a “significant interest” in Hall and Oates’ music catalog for 15 years.
Hall alleges that the sale would violate the terms of a business agreement with Oates. In response to the lawsuit, a judge temporarily blocked Oates’ sale while legal proceedings and arbitration that had begun before the filing are in progress.
Pitchfork has reached out to Daryl Hall’s attorney, Robb S. Harvey, as well as a representative for John Oates for comment and more information.
