Peter Gabriel: I/O [Real World]
Peter Gabriel teased the arrival of I/O for more than 20 years, finally making good on his promise of new material as he began the album rollout with “Panopticom” in January. Over the course of the year, Gabriel continued to release all of the record’s dozen tracks, coinciding with each month’s full moon. I/O is the musician’s first album of all-new original material since 2002’s Up.

Full of Hell & Nothing: When No Birds Sang [Closed Casket Activities]
The shoegaze-inclined Nothing and grindcore act Full of Hell join forces for When No Birds Sang, the first full-length collaboration between the bands. “We’re meeting in the middle where it’s lush and beautiful, but also sad and ugly if you look closely at it,” said Nothing bandleader Domenic Palermo in a statement about the LP. The bands shared “Like Stars in the Firmament” and “Spend the Grace” ahead of the new album’s release. In addition, in the lead-up to When No Birds Sang, Nothing announced the Slide Away festival.

Tiga & Hudson Mohawke: L’Ecstasy [Love Minus Communications]
Multitalented club producers Tiga and Hudson Mohawke operate together as Love Minus Zero, and L’Ecstasy is their debut album. They announced it with album closer “In Order 2,” on which, said Tiga in press materials, Mohawke’s “perfect melancholic chords allowed [him] to express a genuine longing that [he] wouldn’t have been able to otherwise.” The artwork is by Wolfgang Tillmans, who told the duo that “In Order 2” struck “a Herznote, or chord close to the heart.” The compliment stuck with Tiga: “Normally you’ll just accept ‘genre-defying’ or ‘nuts-to-the-wall’ as a compliment and move on. But we saw our intention reflected in his words. Getting to collaborate with a world-class artist like Wolfgang validates the very idea of having emotions at all.”

Clark: Cave Dog [Throttle]
This year, Clark released Sus Dog, a vocal-led curveball from the veteran techno musician which was executive produced by Thom Yorke. That record’s companion album, Cave Dog, was borne out of the former’s gestation period, when Clark made video vignettes to accompany the record with alternative versions of the tracks. Half beat-driven, half stripped-back, Cave Dog documents Clark’s search “for intense, rich detail that sometimes only reveals itself on the thirtieth listen, but also flow, simplicity and memorable melodies that just can’t be any other way otherwise they’re wrong,” he said in press materials. “Making it really cohere was fun but fackin ’ell, I’m done. Happy and time to call it quits. I sussed it.”

Epilogio: Cromo Rx [self-released]
Epilogio combine a pair of the year’s standout indie-pop EPs on the full-length Cromo Rx. Led by multi-instrumentalist Armando López Brignoni, the onetime solo project has expanded into a four-piece concocting dreamy, psychedelic nuggets from the group’s hometown of San Juan, Puerto Rico.

Erica Banks: Real Rap B**** [1501 Certified Entertainment]
Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta alumna Erica Banks, who had a major viral hit with her song “Buss It” ahead of last year’s Diary of the Flow Queen, is back with 10 new songs on Real Rap B****. Along with the title track, which arrived over the summer, the project includes “Industry,” the K Carbon–featuring “War,” and “Talmbout Nun,” which has a guest spot from Gloss Up.

Thy Slaughter, A. G. Cook & Easyfun: Soft Rock [PC Music]
Thy Slaughter, the joint project between PC Music producer A. G. Cook and Easyfun, released their first song, “Bronze,” back in 2014. Now, the duo has reconvened for a debut full-length. The 12-track Soft Rock includes guest appearances from Charli XCX, Caroline Polachek, and Alaska Reid. Thy Slaughter’s recent cut “Lost Everything” was co-written by the late SOPHIE and features Wolf Alice singer Ellie Rowsell. Soft Rock also includes the singles “Reign,” “Sentence,” and “If I Knew.”

Jonathan Rado: For Who the Bell Tolls For [Western Vinyl]
Jonathan Rado, one half of Foxygen, commemorates the late Richard Swift and illustrator and animator Danny Lacy on For Who the Bell Tolls For. He led the sprawling art-rock LP with “Easier,” which features Swift collaborators Daniel Hindman and Sarah Versprille (of Pure Bathing Culture), as well as Swift’s brother, Jonathan Swift Behr.
