South Korean opposition leader attacked and injured by unidentified man – officials

South Korea’s opposition leader Lee Jae-myung has been injured after he was attacked by an unidentified man, officials have said.
The politician was attacked as he visited a construction site at a new airport in the city of Busan, according to the city’s emergency office.

It said Lee – who heads the main opposition Democratic Party – was conscious but his exact condition was unknown.
South Korean media, citing witnesses, said the attacker had used a knife-like weapon to injure Lee’s neck.
Lee lost the 2022 presidential election to Yoon Suk Yeol by a narrow margin.
