Billie Eilish and her brother, Finneas, have won Best Song Written for Visual Media at the 2024 Grammys for the Barbie ballad “What Was I Made For?” This year’s category was almost entirely dominated by Barbie the Album contributions: Dua Lipa’s “Dance the Night,” Nicki Minaj and Ice Spice’s “Barbie World,” and Ryan Gosling’s “I’m Just Ken.” The lone holdout was Rihanna with “Lift Me Up” from Black Panther: Wakanda Forever – Music From and Inspired By.
“What Was I Made For?” also secured Eilish nominations for Record of the Year, Song of the Year, Best Pop Solo Performance, and Best Music Video. Eilish was nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her Labrinth collaboration “Never Felt So Alone,” but the award went to SZA and Phoebe Bridgers.
Eilish’s victory came shortly after Barbie the Album won Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media.
Before tonight’s ceremony, Eilish had seven Grammy Awards under her belt. The majority of those came about in 2020 when, at the age of just 18, she earned five trophies; the singer and songwriter made history that night, becoming the youngest artist to be nominated for and win awards in all of the Big Four categories on the same night: Album, Record, and Song of the year, as well as Best New Artist.
