Victoria Monét has won this year’s Best New Artist Grammy, earning the honor over Ice Spice, Fred Again.., Coco Jones, Jelly Roll, Gracie Abrams, Noah Kahan, and the War and Treaty.
Though Monét just issued her debut full-length, Jaguar II, in August, she’s co-written some of Ariana Grande’s biggest hits (“34+35,” “Thank U, Next,” and “7 Rings” among them), along with “Do It” by Chloe x Halle. She released an EP titled Jaguar in 2020.
Monét was up for several other Grammys this year, with Jaguar II winning the awards for Best R&B Album and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. “How Does It Make You Feel” earned a nod for Best R&B Performance, and lead single “On My Mama” is in the running for Best R&B Song. Monét’s daughter, Hazel Monét, is the youngest Grammy nominee in history for her credit on “Hollywood,” which features Earth, Wind & Fire and is up for Best Traditional R&B Performance.
