The Decemberists are back with their first new music in six years and are announcing a lengthy tour to coincide with the news. “Burial Ground”—featuring the Shins’ James Mercer and recorded with co-producer Tucker Martine—follows the band’s 2018 album, I’ll Be Your Girl. Give it a listen below.
Beginning on April 30 in Kingston, New York, the band’s extensive North American tour will last throughout the spring and summer before ending on August 3 in Troutdale, Oregon. Opening every show are Chicago indie rock group Ratboys, and one date—Bend, Oregon, on July 12—will see the Head and the Heart joining as support, too. See the complete list of tour dates below.
The members of the Decemberists haven’t been radio silent since I’ll Be Your Girl. Bandleader Colin Meloy wrote several children’s and young adult novels, one of which—his Wildwood Chronicles series—is being adapted into a feature film starring Mahershela Ali, Carey Mulligan, Maya Erskine, Jermaine Clement, Tom Waits, and Angela Bassett.
