Jon Batiste was among the performers at the 2024 Oscars this evening (March 10), where he played his song “It Never Went Away” from the Netflix documentary American Symphony. Scroll down to watch Batiste play grand piano and sing on the Dolby Theatre stage.
Batiste’s track was up for Best Original Song tonight, where it faced off with Barbie cuts “I’m Just Ken” and Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” as well as Becky G’s Flamin’ Hot track “The Fire Inside,” and Osage Tribal Singers’ “Wahzhazhe (A Song for My People)” from Killers of the Flower Moon. Later in the evening, Eilish and Finneas were revealed to be the winners of the category.
This marks Batiste’s second-ever Oscar nomination; he received his first nod in 2021 for the Pixar movie Soul, subsequently winning Best Original Score for his work on that film alongside Trent Reznor and Atticus Ross.
