Young Estonian star Romet Jürgenson moved into the lead of the FIA Junior WRC championship after his dominant display culminated in victory at Croatia Rally on Sunday.
FIA Rally Star driver Jürgenson proved to be omnipotent over the course of the asphalt event, barely putting a wheel wrong as he opted for cruise mode on Sunday following a plethora of stage wins earlier in rally,
He and co-driver Siim Oja topped the M-Sport Poland Ford Fiesta Rally3 leaderboard by 2min 35.1sec after three gruelling days, celebrating their maiden victory whilst also vaulting to a 22-point championship lead after round two of five.
Australia’s Taylor Gill, another product of the FIA Rally Star programme, was Jürgenson’s closest challenger. He moved into the runner-up spot following the demise of Tom Rensonnet on Saturday and now sits third in the points.
Following Gill onto the podium was Norbert Maior, who stepped up to Junior WRC this season as part of his prize for winning last year’s Junior ERC title. The Romanian, co-driven by his sister Francesca, finished the rally almost four minutes off the pace of Jürgenson.
Fourth place went to Bolivian hotshot Bruno Bulacia while Roberto Blach and José Caparó completed the top six.
Diego Dominguez finished down in ninth after rolling on day one, but the Paraguayan was undoubtedly one of the stars of Sunday. Fastest on three of the four stages, he claimed a total of five Wolf Stage Win points over the course of the rally. Jürgenson netted nine and Gill took three while Maior, Rensonnet, Ali Türkkan and Raul Hernández all netted one each.
The FIA Junior WRC returns to action next month with round three taking place at Rally Italia Sardegna from 30 May – 2nd June.
