Megan Thee Stallion is facing a harassment lawsuit from a man who says he used to work as a cameraman for the Houston rapper. According to the complaint, filed in a California court and viewed by Pitchfork, Megan Thee Stallion’s “conduct created a hostile work environment for Plaintiff [Emilio Garcia], making the conditions of his employment intolerable in direct contravention of various statutes and state law decisions.”
According to his lawsuit, Garcia began working as a personal cameraman for Megan Thee Stallion in or around July 2018, and he says he quit his full-time job around September 2019 to work full-time with the musician. His employment continued, he says, until being told “unexpectedly” in June 2023 that “his services would no longer be required by [Megan Thee Stallion].”
In the complaint, Garcia claims that Megan Thee Stallion’s violations of the Fair Employment and Housing Act (FEHA) began in June 2022 while he was on tour with the musician in Ibiza, Spain. Garcia alleges that he was in an SUV with Megan and three other women when the rapper “and one of the other women start having sex right beside [him].” Garcia “could not get out of the car as it was both moving and he was in the middle of nowhere in a foreign country,” he claims, leaving him “embarrassed, mortified and offended throughout the whole ordeal.”
Following alleged incident in the SUV, Megan told Garcia, “Don’t ever discuss what you saw,” and made “fat-shaming comments” toward him, according to the lawsuit. Garcia also claims that he “noticed a change in how he was treated and saw a decrease in the number of bookings he received from [Megan Thee Stallion].”
In addition to the alleged hostile work environment harassment in violation of FEHA, Garcia claims that Megan and her management company, co-defendant Roc Nation, did not compensate him properly for his work, and that he was denied overtime payment and proper meal and rest breaks.
In a statement shared with Pitchfork, Ron Zambrano, an attorney for Emilio Garcia, said: “Megan just needs to pay our client what he’s due, own up to her behavior and quit this sort of sexual harassment and fat shaming conduct. Emilio should never have been put in a position of having to be in the vehicle with her while she had sex with another woman. ‘Inappropriate’ is putting it lightly. Exposing this behavior to employees is definitely illegal.”
Pitchfork has reached out to Megan Thee Stallion and Roc Nation’s respective representatives for comment.
