The FIA Automobile Mobility and Tourism Department has won the Global NCAP Innovation Award for its groundbreaking Road Safety Index.
The FIA Road Safety Index enables companies to measure and report on their road safety impact, in the same way that they might track their carbon footprint. The Road Safety Index results can then be used as a benchmark for the development of new strategies and approaches.
The award was presented at the #NCAP24 Congress in Munich.
FIA Secretary General for Automobile Mobility and Tourism, Jacob Bangsgaard, and Head of Road Safety and Advocacy, Luca Pascotto, attended the event.
Speaking about the conference and the NCAP Innovation Award, Jacob said: “We are delighted to receive the NCAP Innovation Award for our work on the FIA Road Safety Index. This tool has a crucial part to play in creating safer and more sustainable roads for the future. We hope that this award will help to grow the number of audiences engaged with the initiative, and allow us to expand our reach even further.”
Both Jacob and Luca also presented the FIA’s vision and research during the two-day conference.
Luca delivered a keynote speech on the Road Safety Index. He highlighted case studies around the initiative, and the FIA’s vision for its growth and development.
Jacob appeared on a panel discussing Mission Zero, and the journey towards net zero within the automobile mobility sector. During his contributions, Jacob highlighted the importance of linking road safety and the Sustainable Development Goals to engage public and private stakeholders, and drive engagement with this important issue. Michael van Ratingen (Euro NCAP), Etienne Krug (WHO), Cecilia Sunnevång (Autoliv), Stephanie Leonard (Tom Tom) and Dominik Schuster (BMW) also appeared on the panel.
The FIA and FIA Foundation also sponsored some of the safety demonstrations on the second day of the conference.
