OFF! have announced farewell shows in New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago this July. Support comes from Fucked Up (in New York) and Surfbort (in Los Angeles), and each city will also host an advance screening of the band’s new feature film, Free LSD. The movie, directed by Dimitri Coats, has a new trailer today—check that out below, along with the tour dates.
Shellac had been slated to support OFF! at the Chicago show. Following the death of Steve Albini, OFF! said, “We are deeply saddened by the passing of the great Steve Albini and our hearts go out to our friends in Shellac. It would have been a huge honor to share the stage at Lincoln Hall on July 18. We dedicate this show to Steve and the mighty Shellac and hope our Chicago fans will join us in celebration of these music legends.”
Free LSD tells the story of a sex shop owner (Morris) who falls for a younger woman visiting the store, setting off a chain events that leads to his taking an experimental drug in the hope of curing his erectile dysfunction. The cast of punk royals includes Dead Kennedys’ D.H. Peligro and the Jesus Lizard’s David Yow. Screenings take place on July 17 (Chicago), July 19 (New York), and August 2 (Los Angeles).
OFF!, helmed by former Black Flag frontman Keith Morris and Burning Brides’ Dimitri Coats, announced their imminent hiatus last month. Morris plans to work on a new record with his other band, Circle Jerks, he told the Vinyl Guide podcast.
