The composer and pianist Max Richter has announced the new album In a Landscape, set for release on September 6, via Decca. The first preview of the album is “Movement, Before All Flowers,” which you can hear below.
Richter is playing a bunch of concerts in support of his new album, beginning in September at La Bâtie-Festival de Genève in Switzerland. For the Australian and North American legs of his tour, he’ll be performing with the American Contemporary Music Ensemble. See Richter’s tour dates below.
Richter recorded In a Landscape at the Oxfordshire studio that he and his wife, the visual artist Yulia Mahr, designed and operate, Studio Richter Mahr. “For me, the music on the record is about connecting or reconciling polarities,” Richter said of his album in a press release. “The electronics with the acoustic instruments, the natural world with the human world, and the big ideas of life with the personal and intimate. This is a dynamic I started to explore in my 2004 record The Blue Notebooks, and the new project shares many of that album’s concerns; in a way this record is another look at the themes of the earlier work, but from the perspective of our world and our lives in 2024.”
