Cayman Motoring Federation Officially Launched: Driving the Future of Motorsport and Mobility in the Cayman Islands

The Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) has officially launched, marking a significant advancement for motorsport and mobility in the Cayman Islands. Held on May 30, 2024, at the new Hotel Indigo Cayman Islands, the event attracted motoring enthusiasts, government official and key stakeholders, heralding a new era for the island’s automotive scene. In attendance was Hon. Minister Isaac Rankine and Deputy Chief Officer Dr. Dalton Watler from the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Heritage, highlighting the Federation’s commitment to inclusivity and youth engagement.

Jane Scaletta, President of CMF, led the event, which included car viewings, an official presentation, and networking sessions. “Today marks a historic milestone for motorsports in the Cayman Islands”, she said, “The official launch of the Cayman Motoring Federation is a testament to our commitment to innovation, safety, and community engagement. 

“We are excited to bring a new era of motorsport and mobility to our islands, with initiatives like sim racing esports, comprehensive training programs, and road safety campaigns. This is just the beginning of a journey that will drive forward the passion for motorsport and make a positive impact on our community. We thank everyone who has supported us and look forward to a future filled with thrilling advancements and achievements.”

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem praised the launch, emphasizing the crucial role of grassroots federations in developing future champions. He reaffirmed the FIA’s commitment to supporting these initiatives with funding, training, and resources, and highlighted the goals of passion, inclusivity, and community-building in motorsport. 

FIA Vice President for Sport North America, Daniel Coen, sent his regards and underscored the FIA’s deep commitment to the growth and development of grassroots motorsport federations globally. He highlighted various FIA initiatives designed to support federations, noting that these innovative approaches remove barriers to entry and make motorsport more accessible to a broader audience.

Key initiatives announced at the event included Motorsport in a Box, an FIA-funded program providing training on slalom driving to promote safe driving practices, and an iRacing partnership offering all 2024 CMF members a 12-month iRacing license, including access to the FIA F4 car, encouraging participation in the FIA F4 Esports Global Championship.

CMF will introduce racing esports at the Gamers Bay event in September and represent the Cayman Islands at the FIA Motorsport Games in Valencia, Spain. Additionally, CMF will offer training programs through FIA University, focusing on e-safety, environmental learning, leadership, and motorsport governance.

CMF supports the Cayman Islands Government’s “Road to Zero” pledge and will engage in the FIA Region III road safety campaign, promoting safe driving practices, especially among youth. 

Chris Elliott from Jamaica highlighted his recent appointment to the FIA Drag Racing Commission and outlined plans to unify safety regulations for drag racing across the region. 

In 2025, CMF will introduce a karting program for young drivers, and initiatives to support women in motorsport through the Women in Motorsport Commission and Girls on Track program.
