Women’s mentorship, cross car, and helmet programme launch at FIA’s annual Conference

The FIA has completed its first ever Conference in Uzbekistan.

Over 300 delegates attended the annual event, which unites global member clubs for votes, discussions, and governance meetings on the future of motor sport and mobility.

FIA Member Club NAFKU and brake supplier Brembo supported the event.

The Conference celebrated the federation’s 120-year history.

As part of these celebrations, the FIA launched a number of new initiatives including a 3-year Helmet Wearing programme, designed to improve safety for 2 and 3-wheeler drivers; a Women in Motorsport Mentorship Programme, launched in conjunction with 24 Hours of Le Mans; and all-new Cross Car designs.

The federation also set out plans to incorporate social impact into its Sustainability Roadmap. A new target – of equal opportunities for those of all genders and backgrounds by 2040 – will be added to existing plans for net zero by 2040.

Selected Delegates were also invited to attend the Sport Organiser Working Group, and Sport Club Members committee meetings. Both sessions provided opportunities for leading Sports Clubs to share knowledge and explore new opportunities for the future of motor sport. The FIA University held a session for members outlining training opportunities, including the Emerging Leaders Programme and the Senior Executive Programme.

The week concluded with the FIA’s key decision making session, the Extraordinary General Assemblies. During the session, Assembly Members  approved all items proposed, including the 2023 Activity Report, the accounts 2023 and statutory amendments.

FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem said: “I want to extend my heartfelt thanks once again to the National Autosport and Karting Federation of Uzbekistan and the City of Samarkand for being such generous hosts and we are indebted to the support of the Administration of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Department of Social Development, the Ministry Of Sport, and the national Olympic and Paralympic Committees. 

“We have celebrated an incredible milestone for the FIA as we reach 120 years, and whilst we have remembered the Federation’s illustrious past, we have also looked at what the future will bring.

“We have introduced robust governance, transparency, and clarity. It is my duty to ensure that our Members and the global community are served with excellence. Our Members are at the heart of everything we do. From the small group of enthusiasts who founded the Federation in 1904, to the 242 clubs who are now connected through the FIA.”

The next General Assemblies will be hosted in Kigali, Rwanda, in December.
