Modern Baseball went on an indefinite hiatus in 2017, but, today, they’re announcing a special reissue of their breakout album, You’re Gonna Miss It All, to celebrate its 10th anniversary. The new edition is out September 27, via Run for Cover, and it includes a 96-page hardcover photo book shot by Jess Flynn, complete with annotations by the band for each photo, and a 7″ with unreleased demos by the Philadelphia emo band. Listen to two of those demos, “Pothole” and “Rock Bottom,” both remastered by bassist Ian Farmer, below.
“When I sift through memories of this time—hazy mornings in the van, Ian’s wild grin on a floodlit stage—I can hardly recall my own perspective. Mostly I see Jess’ photos,” said Modern Baseball singer-guitarist Jake Ewald. “I’m grateful not just for those moments made permanent, but for what Jess taught me as an artist. To tread quietly, thoughtfully, so that light might show itself. Certain people used to call Jess ‘the unzipper.’ On the road she had the uncanny ability to capture us at our most joyful and earnest, but also at our most needful, our most aching. While everyone in the room was staring at us, Jess saw us. For that, we thank you, Jess.”
Modern Baseball released You’re Gonna Miss It All, their sophomore album, in 2014 – just two years after their debut, Sports. It went on to hit No. 97 on the Billboard 200, in part, thanks to the popularity of their single “Your Graduation.” Modern Baseball released one more album, Holy Ghost, in 2016 before disbanding the following year.
