Xiu Xiu—the experimental art-pop group of Jamie Stewart, Angela Seo, and David Kendrick—have announced their a new album. The full-length is titled 13″ Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips, and it’s out September 27 via Polyvinyl. Lead single “Common Loon” comes with a NSFW video directed by and starring Alicia McDaid as Britney Spears, Smurfette, Garfield, and over a dozen other characters on Vimeo. A slightly censored version of the video is available to watch on YouTube below, too.
“The song ‘Common Loon,’ for us, is about reveling in perversity, cuckooness, queerness and/or the unquenchable personal requirement to wild out,” Stewart said of the new song. “As MASSIVE fans of Alicia McDazzler’s work, we could think of no one else more qualified to embody those ways of being and no one else who would crank them up further than we would have ever imagined. She is an inspiration and icon to all LOONS!”
Mixed by John Congleton, 13″ Frank Beltrame Italian Stiletto With Bison Horn Grips takes inspiration from the band’s recent move from Los Angeles to Berlin, as well as “the destruction of previous aesthetic notions.” It follows Xiu Xiu’s 2023 album, Ignore Grief.
Xiu Xiu are going on a North American and European tour later this year, too. Beginning on September 20, the band will perform in the Seattle, San Diego, Austin, New York, Toronto, and other major cities before flying over to the Netherlands in November for the European leg.
