2024 KARA Gymkhana Championship Kicks Off: Promoting Diversity, Inclusion, and Grassroots Motorsport

The 2024 Korea Automobile Racing Association (KARA) Gymkhana Championship has successfully commenced, marking a significant step in the promotion of motorsports in Korea. The starting round was held on a special course at Inje Speedium on May 26, followed by the second round at Gimcheon Neotech on June 16. This championship aims to popularise Gymkhana as a grassroots motorsport, encouraging wider participation across the country.

In a bid to increase inclusivity and participation, this year’s competition has expanded from being divided into two drivetrain-based classes to include a women’s class and diversified car classes. This expansion not only broadens the scope of the competition but also enhances its appeal to a more diverse group of participants.

The championship also serves a dual purpose by acting as a selection event for representatives to compete in the FIA Motorsport Games and the Asia Pacific Motorsport Championship. This adds a layer of prestige and international opportunity for the participants.

Mr. Lim, Secretary General of the Korea Automobile Racing Association (KARA), highlighted the championship’s goals: “The KARA Gymkhana Championship aims not only to expand Gymkhana itself but also to create opportunities for more people to easily participate in motorsports. The championship serves as a vital platform for the development of Gymkhana participants, providing them with the opportunity to emerge as representatives of Korea. This pathway is facilitated through Gymkhana schools, which are held across various regions, nurturing talent and honing their skills.”

The 2024 KARA Gymkhana Championship consists of five rounds in total. In addition to the competitive rounds, Gymkhana schools are being held in four key regions: Inje Speedium, Taebaek Speedway, Yongin Speedway, and Yeongam Korea International Circuit. These schools play a crucial role in nurturing new talent and promoting the sport at a grassroots level.
