Jennifer Castle has announced her seventh studio album: Camelot is out November 1 via Paradise of Bachelors. Today, the Canadian singer-songwriter has shared “Lucky #8” from the record, and it features Cass McCombs on slide guitar and co-producer Jeff McMurrich on lead guitar. Castle has also shared a music video compiling vintage clips of historic gymnastics routines Castle watched as a kid. Castle collaged footage of gymnasts Lavinia Milosovici, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, and Nadia Comanici for the visual. Check it out below, and scroll down for the album artwork and tracklist.
Speaking in press materials, Castle said that “Lucky #8” “sort of has that energetic vibe to it, where it attempts a stunt lyrically (in my mind) to absorb all the possibilities of life into one moment and to be okay with that complexity, instead of fracturing off into myriad neurotic narratives.”
“Lucky #8” follows Castle’s prior single “Blowing Kisses,” which also appears on Camelot. Originally released in June, the track was used in its entirety in the penultimate episode of The Bear’s third season.
In addition to working with McMurrich and McCombs on Camelot, Castle enlisted prior collaborator Owen Pallett, who arranged strings performed by Estonia’s Fames Skopje Studio Orchestra. Other players on the album include pianist and keyboardist Carl Didur, drummer and percussionist Evan Cartwright, bassist Mike Smith, and guitarist Paul Mortimer. Backing vocalists Victoria Cheong and Isla Craig also recorded on the album.
Castle’s previous studio LP, Monarch Season, came out in 2020.
