A reissue of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers’ 1982 album, Long After Dark, is set for release on October 18. The remastered LP comes with 12 bonus tracks, including seven not yet released. To accompany the reissue, the Petty Legacy archives will share a series of unearthed songs and videos from 1982-83 in the coming weeks. Below, check out the first, a 1982 version of “Straight Into Darkness,” shot for French television by director Alan Bibby.
Among the bonus tracks are a few that Petty wanted on the original album, a press release notes. “There was some music recorded for Long After Dark that didn’t get on the record, that I thought would’ve made it a better album,” Petty is quoted saying. “I left off… four things that I liked quite a bit. And probably a few more written that never even got in the door.” Liner notes in the reissue come from David Fricke, with commentary from Jimmy Iovine and Cameron Crowe.
