Here’s how much longer the iPhone 16’s ‘big battery boost’ will really last

During its jam-packed introduction of the iPhone 16 at its Glowtime event Monday, Apple’s presenters continually referenced a “big battery boost” thanks to larger batteries and a more efficient chip. However, they stopped short of telling us exactly how much longer the new phones will last.

Now we know–it’s pretty substantial. According to Apple’s tech specs, the new phones last up to four hours longer than the comparable previous generation, one of the largest battery life leaps ever. Here’s how Apple rates the latest phones compared to the iPhone 15:

iPhone 16

  • Video playback: Up to 22 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 18 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 80 hours

iPhone 16 Plus

  • Video playback: Up to 27 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 24 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 100 hours

iPhone 16 Pro

  • Video playback: Up to 27 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 22 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 85 hours

iPhone 16 Pro Max

  • Video playback: Up to 33 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 29 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 105 hours

iPhone 15

  • Video playback: Up to 20 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 16 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 80 hours

iPhone 15 Plus

  • Video playback: Up to 26 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 20 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 100 hours

iPhone 15 Pro

  • Video playback: Up to 23 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 20 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 75 hours

iPhone 15 Pro Max

  • Video playback: Up to 29 hours
  • Video playback (streamed): Up to 25 hours
  • Audio playback: Up to 95 hours

That’s an impressive four-hour increase for the iPhone 16 Pro Max, which is the biggest jump since the iPhone 13, which saw a two-plus-hour improvement. Other models get between 1 to 2 hours, which isn’t bad at all. And with Apple’s tendency to underpromise and overdeliver on battery life, the iPhone 16 Pro Max could last well into a second day.

The iPhone 16 models will go up for preorder beginning Friday, September 13 for delivery beginning September 20.
