IMI showcases automotive excellence at 2024 Indonesia Automotive Friendship Golf Gathering

The Indonesia Automotive Golf Community (IAGC), operating under FIA Member Club the Ikatan Motor Indonesia (IMI), hosted its second Indonesia Automotive Friendship Golf Gathering on June 22, 2024, at the Damai Indah Golf – Pantai Indah Kapuk Course. The event showcased IMI’s commitment to promoting Indonesia’s automotive culture while diversifying its initiatives through innovative, cross-industry experiences.

Established by IMI President Bambang Soesatyo in October 2022, the IAGC has become a key platform for promoting unity through sport, a mission central to the second Indonesia Automotive Friendship Golf Gathering. Catering to automotive enthusiasts, golf lovers and the broader community, the event combined the worlds of automotive sports and golf, offering both educational and entertaining experiences.

The gathering brought together a wide range of participants, including golfers from IMI, its business partners, government institutions, state-owned enterprises, private companies, sponsors, and the general public.

Competing for titles such as Best Gross Overall and Best Nett Overall in both team and individual divisions, participants vied for the IMI President’s Rotating Cup and the IAGC Cup, respectively. Additionally, categories such as Flight A/B/C included awards for Best Gross and Best Nett, while skills challenges like Nearest to the Pin, Nearest to the Line, and Longest Drive further enriched the competition.

A key highlight was the automotive exhibition, featuring 59 vehicles, strategically displayed across 18 holes, including historic cars, classic sports cars, supercars, exotic cars, Japanese retro sports cars, race cars, rally cars, drift cars, off-road vehicles, and custom vehicles. Large motorcycles, such as Harley-Davidson and BMW models, were also on display, along with a replica of the Formula 1 car driven by Indonesian racer Rio Haryanto in the Formula 1 World Championship.

The exhibit served as a testament to IMI’s role in preserving and promoting automotive history while engaging the public through diverse experiences. The showcase also underscored the synergy between golf and automotive sports, elevating IMI’s diversified approach to engaging both sectors.

The event earned the Indonesia World Records Museum (MURI) award for “Most Automotive Exhibitions in a Golf Tournament,” recognising IMI’s efforts to create dynamic platforms that combine sport and culture.
