The third FIA Motorsport Games is providing a platform for drivers to progress their careers with several stepping up in performance for the Valencia-based competition.
After winning the silver medal in Karting Sprint Senior in Marseille two years ago, Yevan David (pictured above and below) is flying the Sri Lanka flag in Formula 4 at Circuit Ricardo Tormo this weekend.
“The previous Games was a big success for me,” said David, who is part of the Ceylon Motor Sports Club contingent in Spain. “Getting the silver medal, and the first ever medal for Sri Lanka, was a really special moment and I’m looking to do the same for this year, just with the gold medal in a different category.
“One of the biggest jumps in motor sport is going from karting to cars, I’ve had a bit of experience now and I’m really hoping to get on the podium this time.”
Having claimed Karting Sprint Junior gold in the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games, Andrés Cárdenas (pictured below) is following Yevan David’s lead by making the move to Formula 4 as part of Touring y Automovil Club del Peru’s delegation in Spain.
“My experience in the 2022 Games was something incredible,” Cárdenas said. “In Peru we don’t have so much of a motor sport culture, we are still building that foundation. With the experience that I got – a gold medal in the last edition – I think in this edition we can do something really good in Formula 4.”
A Karting Sprint Senior competitor when the FIA Motorsport Games took place in Marseille two years ago, Oscar Wurz (pictured below), the youngest son of ex-Formula One racer Alex, has graduated to Formula 4 for the 2024 edition as part of the Austria Motorsport Federation line-up. He follows in the wheel tracks of older brother Charlie, who competed in Formula 4 in the 2022 FIA Motorsport Games.
Like Armenian Automobile Federation, Alex Sargsyan (pictured below) is an FIA Motorsport Games Newcomer for 2024. However, the 18-year-old will have career progression firmly in his mind while he’s competing in Esports E4 and Esports GT.
“I started in karts when I was five years old but when coronavirus came, everyone was at home but I still wanted to race so bought simracing rig in 2020, got to a good level so I have decided to compete in Esports,” Sargsyan said. “My target is to go for gold because if you do not go for gold you are not supposed to be a driver. If I keep pushing like this I can probably drive in LMP2, which is quite different from now.”
