Jamaica beat England in decider to clinch series

Jamaica beat England 61-53 in the deciding match of the inaugural Vitality Netball Horizon Series to clinch the series 2-1 and be crowned as winners.

After the first match ended in a draw, England picked up a 55-47 win in Manchester in the second match, while Jamaica then found a last-gasp goal in a 50-49 win to take the series all the way in Kingston.

There was one big change to England’s starting line-up though as Helen Housby was out injured, Liv Tchine coming in at goal shooter.

Jess Thirlby’s side took an early four-goal lead after the first quarter, the 15-11 scoreline standing them in good stead, but Jamaica fought back to level the score and then take the lead just before half-time.

With the home outfit 28-16 in front with two quarters to go, Tchine was still scoring well and kept England in the contest at 42-39 down with 15 minutes on the clock.

However, in the fourth quarter Jamaica started to dominate, stretching out into an eight-goal lead before eventually wrapping up the encounter at 61-53.

The Vitality Roses will next be back in action on home soil when they play Malawi, South Africa and Uganda in a four-day tournament on February 1-2 and 8-9 2025 across two venues in London and Nottingham.
