Jonathan Haggerty will return to world title action on February 20 live on Sky Sports.
The British star will be defending his ONE Championship bantamweight kickboxing crown against Wei Rui at the Lusail Sports Arena in Qatar.
An outstanding striker in combat sports, Haggerty made his name becoming a two-sport king in ONE Championship, winning the Muay Thai belt as well as his kickboxing title.
After starting the year winning a thrilling bout with Felipe Lobo, Haggerty faced pound-for-pound superstar Superlek Kiatmoo9 in a Muay Thai title defence in September. A brilliant elbow saw Superlek stop Haggerty.
But now the Briton begins his comeback, returning to top-level competition against an elite kickboxer in Wei ‘Demon Blade’ Rui.
The Chinese fighter was a decorated K-1 athlete who came into ONE this year on a 20-bout winning run.
He beat former world champion Hiroki Akimoto to book his shot at Haggerty’s title.
Haggerty has held the kickboxing title since he knocked out Fabricio Andrade in 2023. Victory over Rui will keep him in top-level competition as a natural rival for Scotland’s Nico Carrillo.
Carrillo is the top Muay Thai contender who will next challenge Superlek, live on Sky Sports on January 24.
There is ONE Championship action coming up this Friday too with Freddie Haggerty, Jonathan’s brother, fighting Thailand’s Kaoklai Chor Hapaya live on Sky Sports‘ digital platforms.
