Shamrock Rovers to face Molde in Conference League knockout play-off

Shamrock Rovers will play Norwegian side Molde in the UEFA Conference League knockout play-off round.

The Dublin club finished 10th in the league phase to secure a seeded position in Friday’s draw, despite a 5-1 defeat at Chelsea on Thursday night.

They won three of their six matches in the league phase, beating Larne of Northern Ireland, TNS of Wales and Borac Banja Luka from Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Victory will secure Stephen Bradley’s men a tie against Cercle Brugge or Legia Warsaw in the last 16.

Shamrock’s seeding means they will be at home in the second leg on February 25, with the first leg being played on February 13.

Chelsea topped the league phase with six wins from six and therefore bypass the knockout round play-offs and will instead meet one of Gent, Real Betis, Copenhagen or Heidenheim in the last 16 in March.

Gent play Real Betis while Copenhagen take on Heidenheim in the two-legged ties, with Chelsea and Vitoria de Guimaraes awaiting the winners. Who plays which winner will be determined when the draw for the round of 16, quarter-finals and semi-finals takes place on February 21.

As a seeded team, Chelsea will contest the away leg on March 6, with the reverse fixture at Stamford Bridge scheduled for March 13.
