Cayman Motoring Federation Launches “STEM Racing Supported by F1” to Inspire Innovation Among Students

FIA Member Cayman Motoring Federation (CMF) has officially launched the “STEM Racing Supported by F1” programme, an initiative aimed at engaging local students in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through an exciting hands-on racing experience.

The “STEM Racing Supported by F1” programme, formerly known as “F1 in Schools,” empowers students to design, build, and race miniature Formula 1 cars, fostering creativity, teamwork, and innovation.

The programme’s consumables kit includes essential components such as a professional 20m roll-out track, CNC machining tools, model blocks with wheels and axles, and advanced software for car design and testing. Students from John Gray High School, Clifton Hunter High School, and Cayman International School will participate in the inaugural programme, which begins this spring and culminates in a national competition before summer.

This initiative is made possible through the support of Cayman Customs Automotive and Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC). Representatives from both organisations praised the programme for its role in nurturing young talent, building valuable skills, and inspiring students to dream big and achieve their full potential.

Jane Scaletta, President of the Cayman Motoring Federation, highlighted the programme’s transformative impact: “This initiative is about more than racing. It’s about equipping our youth with the skills, confidence, and resilience to excel. With the support of our sponsors, the dedication of our schools, and the enthusiasm of our students, we are building a brighter, more innovative future for our community.”

Marcus Patterson, the programme’s In-Country Coordinator, emphasised the real-world skills students will gain: “STEM Racing Supported by F1 offers students the chance to step into roles as engineers, marketers, and project managers. By using advanced tools like CNC machine software, they’ll learn to optimise speed and aerodynamics in their designs. This is more than just a competition; it’s an immersive learning experience that bridges theory and practice.”

The Cayman Motoring Federation encourages the community to support these ambitious students as they prepare for their national competition and strive for excellence on the global stage.
