Heads Up! Is a project aimed to address poor helmet use in Asia-Pacific countries, where motorcycles are a leading cause of fatalities. Implemented in Vietnam, Cambodia, India, Chinese-Taipei, and the Philippines, the project sought to empower youth to promote helmet use, strengthen local road safety advocacy for Clubs, and build capacity for sustainable initiatives.
Run by Fifty-Five Productions from the Philippines, the previous winner of the Heads Up! Phase I PSA Competition, the new Phase II campaign targeted youth with the slogan, “Helmets are #my_choice, style’s #my_voice,” highlighting helmet use as a both a personal and stylish choice.
Another key message of the campaign “Head First”, conveyed the idea that wearing a helmet is a choice, and that staying safe is about a series of decisions people take to protect themselves that starts with the decision of wearing a helmet. The campaign reached over 1.3 million people on social media.
Alongside the campaign, capacity-building workshops for FIA Region II Clubs were organised to better design and implement evidence-based mobility solutions. These workshops helped Clubs enhance their skills and confidence in leading mobility projects while providing practical knowledge to support their initiatives. Feedback highlighted the need for a coaching-focused approach in subsequent training sessions to apply their learnings in practice.
The project had a significant impact, directly benefiting over 119,624 individuals and indirectly reaching more than 1.4 million people.
Key takeaways from the campaign emphasised the importance of launching offline activities early in the campaign, promoting online contests across multiple platforms, and tailoring capacity-building efforts to the specific priorities of participating Clubs.
