FIA Appoints new single sustainable fuel supplier for the World Rally Championship for 2025

Sport news

The Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) has appointed a new single supplier of sustainable fuel to the FIA World Rally Championship from Round 4, Rally Islas Canarias (24-27 April), until the end of the 2025 season.

This announcement comes following confirmation that previous supplier, P1 Performance Fuels GmbH, has entered administration and can no longer fulfil its contractual obligations to supply the championship.

The FIA has worked quickly to reach the agreement with the new supplier – TotalEnergies – ensuring that there will be a stable supply for the remainder of the season that maintains the championship’s low-carbon competition targets. TotalEnergies is present in the wider motor sport ecosystem, notably providing sustainable fuel for the FIA World Endurance Championship and FIA European Truck Racing Championship.

For the Safari Rally Kenya (20-23 March), the sustainable fuel was already in transit prior to the announcement regarding P1 Performance Fuels GmbH, and the FIA has worked with logistics entities to ensure that this fuel will be delivered and distributed for use during the event.

TotalEnergies will begin supplying sustainable fuel to the FIA priority drivers on Rally Islas Canarias before rolling out the distribution to all crews at subsequent events until the end of the season.

The tender for the single supply of sustainable fuel to the FIA World Rally Championship for 2026-2028 has recently closed and the FIA is assessing the submissions received. An announcement will be made regarding this in due course.

FIA Junior Road Sport Director, Emilia Abel, said: “I would like to thank TotalEnergies and the FIA team for moving so quickly to make this agreement that guarantees the supply of sustainable fuel for the remainder of the season. TotalEnergies is a recognised supplier of sustainable fuels to the motor sport industry, and I am sure that we have found the right solution for now while we consider the longer-term options for the single fuel supplier to be selected for 2026 onwards following the tender process. It is never an easy situation when a supplier enters administration, but we have been able to react effectively to ensure there has been no negative impact on the competition.”
